Living healthy, starts with eating healthy!

NO SUGAR!NO Trans Fat!

NO High Fructose Corn Syrup!

NO Artificial Colors!

Even with all the “NOs” it still is not enough. Our family has embarked on a quest to be ALL NATURAL! Natural fruits, vegetables and where possible, natural meats. This is a huge undertaken as most food producers are not completely focused on healthy foods. As a business, they are focused on their bottom line. This has equated to injecting and subjecting the food we eat to unnatural processes. That processing may help the food appear larger or look more appeals, but our digestive process suffers enormously. So what are we saying, “Don’t buy food from a supermarket?”, “Spend an excess amount of money on healthier food?” or “Just start a farm in your backyard?” Actually none of the above.  There are affordable healthier foods in the same places where you normally shop. And since many supermarkets are also focused on the bottom line, the more healthier foods you purchase the more healthier food they will have in stock. BUT, is it worth the hassle? ABSOLUTELY!

After Halloween, we saw the visible rush of the traditional sugar treats in our children. They exhibited unexpected surges in negative energy (quick excitements and extended periods of being tired). Then it hit us. Look at what they are eating. Now shopping for food does take longer when buying unfamiliar items. We literally read every line on the food ingredients and ensure that it is healthy enough for our family. As parents we would jump through hurdles to ensure our children didn’t eat food they are allergic too, but in essence that is what we do. We buy food that has a negative impact on our children.

Together we can support each other in openly identifying alternatives to eating healthy. This is not an easy transition, but we can rely on the mommy’s in the neighborhood to act as a constant support system. When you are in doubt, reach out to the neighborhood.

It is a good idea to start healthy eating habits with children because they will carry it into adulthood. My children know healthy snacks and prefer them to unhealthy alternatives. So it is up to me to provide the good stuff.
